On my daily walk, today, I came across some lovely tributes marking VE Day.

75 years ago, today, Winston Churchill announced the end of war in Europe with Nazi Germany surrendering the day before. This year’s May Day Bank Holiday had been re-scheduled well in advance, from the first Monday in May to Friday 8th May, so that the nation could come together in celebration. Sadly, planned parades, concerts, festivals and street parties to mark the event were cancelled due to the pandemic. The Royal Air Force Red Arrows Aerobatic Team still took to the skies, to honour their armed forces forbearers in a looped flight path, in and out of London, from their base in Lincoln.

Seeing the tributes was a reminder to remember all those brave men and women who fought, died or survived, and the stories they made and dispatched from the second World War.
