A creative producer placement on the Estuary Festival 2021 at Watt Tyler Country Park in Pitsea, Essex, was a great opportunity to get out and about, away from the classroom, and into a live working environment again.

Once the home of an explosives factory, the park became host to artist installations inspired by the eco systems of the Thames Estuary and the site's historic past. Already a popular place with dog walkers, bird watchers and foxes hoping to snap up leftover picnics, the festival production team revitalised outbuildings and open spaces for the public to enjoy free art exhibitions and events.

No two days on the job were the same. From research and resourcing remotely to assisting with on-site planning and prepping. The placement offered hands on practical training in the field, literally. A muddy wet start during the set up brought an opportunity to drive a tractor. Not something that happens very often, and a first for me! Working with an amazing crew, the dream team, during the best of the weather in a gloriously sunny late May and June made the experience one I will never forget.
